Spring Peepers

After lunch today, I went for a bicycle ride up the quiet road towards the fields and farms near my home. It was so beautiful! Blue sky, puffy white clouds, warm sunshine on my back, and the woody scents of hemlocks, pines, and spruce trees breathing the fresh spring air relaxed me completely. Then I rode by a vernal pond and stopped at the chorus of spring peepers singing their little hearts out with joy for this gorgeous day. Now, this wasn't the high-pitched peeper cadence you might hear beside a river at dusk, but the gulping of peeper frogs, chirping excitedly about the afternoon. So I took a video of it to share with you.

The spring peeper can "help you evolve into your next becoming," Maia Toll writes in her book, The Illustrated Bestiary. She continues, "These wee frogs remind you to embrace your innate ability to evolve, especially when you think you've forgotten how...they can teach you to slip out of your comfort zone and swim away from your home pond to take in the view from the trees.

  • Think about where you are comfortable, where you feel at home, and can breathe easily.

  • Now challenge yourself to do something that feels out of your element...simply try something new. See how it alters the way you think, feel, and breathe!

How many times have you reincarnated in this lifetime? The peepers hibernate in winter deep in the mud at a pond's edge, and in spring, they thaw to a new life. What would your life look like if you reincarnated this spring and started becoming a new you? How many times have you begun anew? And each time, how did you grow, and what did you learn?(Maia Toll)

What is inside you that you'd like to open up to this spring? What would you love to sing joyfully about like those little peepers? Write me a note and share it with me. I'd like to hear from you.

Exploring Nature

"I worked with Mindy in a very difficult time in my life when I often felt disconnected from the world and beauty. One time as we were working she started to describe the landscape around her - a stream, the trees, and two ducks. The ducks swam upstream and one of them stopped to feed in the middle of a rough current. The other duck stayed close by and kept watch. Later, the ducks shot past, riding the current downstream.  As I listened to Mindy describe these things I started to notice sensations in my body and my breath became more relaxed. The ducks became a whole new way of understanding my situation - that I could get nourishment from this difficult time and I was protected. I was swimming against the current now, but there was also relief and joy in riding the current of my life. This image stayed with me after the session and I was able to return to it for comfort.

Mindy shared bite-sized resources and helped me integrate mindfulness practices into my busy life. Now I treasure these practices and the peace they bring me in my life."

Deer

"Mindy, I went walking in the meadow yesterday just trying to get grounded. I went the way you took me and lo and behold a deer literally ran in front of me on that path before entering the woods. I was amazed but thought of you knowing your connection to deer.

Looking at all the different wildflowers on that path, I tried to slow down, breathe and connect. I chuckled thinking maybe it’s somewhat chaotic (over grown, wild) but so beautiful. And I need to try and remember as things don’t go my way that my chaotic life is beautiful. But I learned that from you. Thinking that way. Thank you."
